Brokeback Mountain at the Oscars
I enjoyed Brokeback Mountain. I really did. And I thought the acting was very good. But it's too bad that it really wasn't my kind of movie. I suppose I'm waiting for the action sci-fi movies to occasionally have well-rounded gay lead characters. Then I'll feel like all is right in Hollywood.
But I don't doubt that Brokeback Mountain will have a positive effect on people. A mainstream love story where the mostly sympathetic main characters happen to be gay can't hurt anyway, right? I suppose it will be pilloried on Fox News if Brokeback Mountain wins. But a lot of people's minds may be changed by seeing a movie like that. And if it wins, more people will see it.
But of course all that is small potatoes compared to this: Supposedly Brad Pitt now wants to star in the "ultimate gay love story". And that alone justifies Brokeback Mountain in my mind. Mmmm... Brad Pitt....
